PEI Women’s Institute is pleased to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Institute on PEI. Monthly celebrations have been set and the next centennial event will be the book launching of WI’s historical recount of the past 100 years on PEI as portrayed through the eyes of author George Doughart.
Doughart recounts the one hundred year history through text and a pictorial journey of WI from its inception on Prince Edward Island. The reader is taken from the very beginnings through to 2013 through the contributions of Women’s Institute branches and their members across PEI.
A written snapshot by the author tells us “There are images that remain when the cover closes on a century of service by the Prince Edward Island Women’s Institute. Those images denote the activities and achievements of the hundreds of women across this province who chose to join the Women’s Institute in their community in order to contribute as volunteers to the betterment of Home and Country. The pages of this book detail the stories and introduce many of the people behind the extraordinary accomplishments of the organization.”
