In Australia, WI member Marie Kenny of Brackley WI was appointed as Chair to United Nations for ACWW. Lieutenant Governor Antoinette Perry, Premier Dennis King, PEI Women's Institute Board members and members of Brackley WI were on hand at Government House to celebrate this recent appointment.

Premier Dennis King presented the Premier's Craft Education Award to Kari Ferguson.

Since 1924, the PEIWI has played an integral part in Old Home Week. The PEIWI Handcrafts, Horticulture and Arts Show is an annual competition of arts and crafts submitted from Islanders artisans. The Premier’s Craft Education Award is comprised of up to $3,000 in a cash prize to fund training and skill development of chosen artists and craft on Prince Edward Island.

Women's Institute members are invited to click your needles together for PEI babies

Period of Purple Crying® is a prevention program to help educate parents and caregivers about normal infant crying and the dangers of shaking an infant. Members are asked to support this program by knitting or crocheting purple baby caps. Hats are still needed. Please inquire or drop off at the WI office.

COVID-19 Announcement from WI

The provincial board of the PEI Women’s Institute (PEIWI) are requesting branch members and their Institutes to adhere to the recommendations from Dr. Heather Morrison, Chief Health Officer for PEI, following her recent announcement released at noon on Friday, March 13, 2020.

As a leader in caring for our communities, especially during the time of an established and developing pandemic, PEIWI is asking our member Institutes to refrain from public gatherings where two meters of personal distance can not be held.

As a direct recommendation the PEIWI Board requests postponement or cancellation of in person meetings effective immediately.  

This includes and not limited to branch meetings, district meetings and all other events pertaining to in person por ublic gatherings.

WI encourages innovation to keep in touch with friends, family, neighbours, fellow members and organizations during this unprecedented situation. 

PEIWI also encourages residents and visitors to PEI to adhere to all recommendations as listed by the Province of Prince Edward Island as listed here:

ACWW's Women Walk the World - April 29 

In the midst of event closures and postponements a modification has occurred for at least one upcoming WI event taking place late April.  Details here. 

20th Spring Is in the Air Gala Dinner - CANCELLED

This year’s annual dinner was scheduled for Friday, April 24, in the Georgian Ballroom at the Rodd Charlottetown.  Given the current health situation across Canada, a decision was made to cancel the dinner for this year.

Annual WI Roadside Cleanup - POSTPONED

Plans are still in place for the 2020 province wide Roadside Cleanup however it is postponed and will take place at the first approved opportunity available.  Check back for updates. In the meantime, here is a list of Winners of the 2019 Cleanup Contest

WI Provincial Convention - POSTPONED UNTIL THE FALL

The WI Provincial Convention was scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2020 and is now postponed until the fall of 2020.  Check back for details.

2020 WI Handcraft, Horticulture and Arts Show - STATUS PENDING

The 97th Handcrafts, Horticulture and Arts Show at the Provincial Exhibition is presently schedule for Friday August, August 14 to 21, 2020.  STATUS IS PENDING
The 2020 Handguide is now available, and a new online fillable form can be downloaded and filled in, and sent via email to the WI Office
ATTENTION FOOD EXHIBITORS - new for 2020:
All food entries – regardless of placing MUST be picked up at the Farm Centre (420 University Avenue) on Monday, August 10th between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.  In an effort to reduce waste, photos will be taken of all first, second, and third place entries, and will be featured in a slideshow at the Exhibition Centre.

Marie Kenny Community Builder Scholarship

The Board of the PEIWI is delighted to announce a new scholarship for graduating grade twelve students.   We are now accepting applications for the Marie Kenny Community Builders Scholarship, officially launched at the 2020 WI Founders Day Celebration.
 
"This scholarship`s focus is on volunteerism and community service. Community spirit and the idea of working together towards successful and sustainable communities has historically been part of the culture all across PEI", said Marie Kenny.  "I want to encourage our Island youth to continue to build on that spirit of community, and through this scholarship we will recognize those contributions."

Details for eligibility are now available online with an application deadline of May 31.  Application now available.

Taking Care of Women's Business. Period. 28 Day Campaign

Thank you to all contributing to this years collection of feminine products for foodbanks across PEI in the month of February.  Although we are still tallying, the campaign wrapped up February 29 and over $5,000 in product is estimated so far to have been collected.

WI Woman in Agriculture Recognition Award

Jessica Reeves from Freetown, PEI was named recently for the WI Woman in Agriculture Recognition Award. Reeves’s has been instrumental bringing agricultural awareness in the education system, and promoting local produce in her culinary classes. Ms. Reeves has also served on provincial and national organizations through both Atlantic and Canada Young Farmers’ programs known for celebrating excellence in Canadian Agriculture. She has received numerous awards and has been featured as a spokesperson for promotion of agriculture. Ms. Reeves also sits on numerous other national committees, councils and boards within the Agricultural Industry. This recognition is for an Island woman making a major contribution to the PEI agriculture sector and is presented bi-annually by the PEI Women’s Institute.  This award will be presented again in 2021.
